This is actually the last era of what is considered true antique Levis. Generally jeans with this era are called redlines In the event that AND ONLY IF they include redline selvage inside the leg joint. This era associated with Levi jeans marked a transition from the prominent Big E Levi's (discussed below), to the more affordable case 'e' red back pocket tab. The one distinguishing characteristics between this era and the article 1971 era are: the superior fly button (both zipper or link fly models) could have a single digit variety stamped on to come back and the interior the top of the back pocket might be single stitched instead of the later ropey chain appears. Very desirable. This era has all of the features above, plus to the interior there are 'hidden' rivets when the back pockets join the body of the skirts. Before this time, any rivets penetrated to the exterior of the pocket (a lot like modern day Wranglers), but conditions about them marring household furniture caused the Levi-Strauss Corporation to "hide" them from sight and move around in them to the interior. That model is referred to as Substantial E Double Z. The rivets became secret and the iconic pink tab first made an appearance in the late Thirties.
